Jois Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 18, 2026 · Effective Date: September 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Jois Technologies Inc. ("Jois," "we," "us," or "our"), 1522 Gordon Street, Apt 704, Los Angeles, CA 90028, USA, collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use the Jois web and mobile applications, the website at https://jois.live and its subdomains, Jois connected devices to the extent they use our software or online services, and all related features and companions (together, the "Services").
This Privacy Policy is part of our Terms of Service at https://jois.live/terms. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms. By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Services.
Summary of key points
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your conversations for advertising.
- Jois is an AI companion. To generate responses, your messages, voice, and (if you turn it on) camera input are processed by third-party AI providers, currently including Google (Gemini).
- Camera, microphone, background listening, location, and Integrations are optional and off until you grant permission. You can turn them off at any time.
- Companions remember things you tell them ("Memory"). You can view, edit, and delete Memory and your conversation history, or delete your account entirely.
- The Services are for adults 18+ only.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to all Services. Any product we offer for children (including any Jois-branded device or app for kids) is covered by a separate privacy notice specific to that product, not by this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites or services you access through links or Integrations; those are governed by their own policies.
2. Information We Collect
2.1. Information you provide to us
- Account information: email address, display name, password or sign-in credentials, selected Companion(s), subscription plan, and account settings (including whether Mature Mode is enabled).
- Age information: confirmation that you are 18 or older, and, where we require age verification (for example, for Mature Mode), the information needed to complete that verification.
- Conversation content: text messages you send, voice input, files and images you share, and the Outputs generated for you ("Conversation Content").
- Memory: facts, preferences, and context about you that are saved from your conversations so that Companions can remember you across sessions.
- Personalization choices: Companion selection, avatar, outfits and wardrobe items, personality settings, notification preferences, and similar choices.
- Support and communications: information you provide when you contact us, report a problem, give feedback, or respond to surveys.
2.2. Information collected through device features you enable
The following are collected only if you grant the relevant permission or turn on the feature. You can revoke permissions at any time in your device settings or in the app.
- Microphone and voice: audio of your voice while voice features are active, which is streamed for real-time processing to generate responses and may be converted to text. We use voice-activity detection, so silence is not processed as speech.
- Background listening: if you enable it, the microphone may remain active while you use other apps, for a limited period shown in the app (currently up to 30 minutes), after which it stops automatically.
- Camera and vision: images or video frames from your camera, so the Companion can see what you show it and adapt to your reactions, including your facial expressions. See Section 5 for how we handle camera data.
- Location: precise or approximate location from your device, used to personalize the experience (for example, context-aware messages or reminders).
- Motion sensors: gyroscope and similar sensor data used to make the avatar experience responsive.
- Notifications: your device's push notification token, used to deliver messages, reminders, and calls from Companions.
2.3. Information collected automatically
- Device and app information: device model, operating system and version, app version, language, time zone, device and advertising identifiers where permitted, and IP address.
- Approximate location: country and region inferred from your IP address.
- Usage information: features used, session times and duration, voice minutes and message counts (to apply plan limits), interactions with Companions and the app interface, and crash, error, and performance logs.
2.4. Information from third parties
- Sign-in providers: if you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your account identifier and, depending on your settings, your name and email address (or a private relay email).
- App stores and payment processors: for purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play, we receive transaction details such as a transaction ID, product purchased, date, currency, and subscription status, but not your full payment card details. For direct purchases, payments are processed by Stripe; we receive a Stripe customer ID, email, subscription status, and limited card details (card brand, last four digits, expiration date, and country of issue), but never your full card number.
- Integrations: if you connect a third-party account such as email or calendar, we receive the data you authorize, as described in Section 6.
3. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
- Provide the Services: create and manage your account; generate Companion responses in text and voice; animate avatars; save and use Memory; deliver proactive messages, reminders, and calls you have enabled; and perform actions you request through Integrations.
- Personalize your experience: tailor Companion conversations, tone, and suggestions to you based on Memory, your settings, and your interactions.
- Process payments and manage subscriptions: verify purchases, apply plan features and usage limits, and handle renewals, cancellations, and billing issues.
- Keep users safe: enforce age requirements; detect and respond to conversations that suggest a risk of harm to you or others, including by showing crisis resources; and prevent abuse, fraud, and violations of our Terms.
- Operate, secure, and improve the Services: monitor performance, fix bugs, analyze usage trends, and develop new features. Where we use data to improve our AI systems, we use de-identified or aggregated data wherever possible.
- Communicate with you: send service messages, respond to support requests, and, where permitted, send product updates. You can opt out of promotional emails at any time.
- Comply with law: meet legal, tax, and regulatory obligations, respond to lawful requests, and establish or defend legal claims.
We do not use your Conversation Content, voice, or camera data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. Conversations, Memory, and AI Processing
4.1. Third-party AI providers. To generate responses, we send your Inputs and the relevant context (such as recent conversation history, Memory, and your Companion's settings) to third-party AI providers. We currently use Google's Gemini models, including the Gemini Live API for real-time voice, and we may use other AI providers for specific features. These providers process data on our behalf under contracts that limit their use of it to providing services to us. We use paid API services whose terms provide that customer content is not used to train the provider's models.
4.2. Memory. Companions save information from your conversations so they can remember you across sessions. You can view, edit, and delete Memory in the app. Deleting Memory removes it from future conversations.
4.3. Sensitive topics in conversations. Many people talk with Companions about personal matters, including feelings, relationships, and health. We do not require you to share sensitive information, and you can choose what to share. If you do share it, we process it as Conversation Content only to provide the Services to you (for example, so the Companion can respond and remember context), to keep users safe, and as otherwise required by law. We do not use it for advertising or sell it. Where the law requires consent to process such information, we rely on your consent, which you give by choosing to share it and which you can withdraw by deleting the relevant Memory, conversation history, or your account.
4.4. Safety review. We use automated systems to detect content that may violate our Terms or suggest a risk of harm. In limited cases, such as investigating abuse reports, security incidents, or legal requests, authorized personnel may review relevant conversation data under strict access controls.
5. Camera and Facial Expression Data
5.1. Opt-in. Camera features are off by default. We will ask for your express consent before activating camera features, and you can turn them off at any time.
5.2. How it is used. Camera frames are processed in real time so the Companion can respond to what you show it and to your reactions (for example, noticing that you are smiling). Camera frames may be sent to our AI providers for this real-time processing.
5.3. What we do not do. We do not use camera data to identify you, we do not create facial recognition templates or faceprints, and we do not store camera images or video after the session. Information derived from what the camera saw (for example, a Companion remembering that you showed it your new guitar) may be saved as part of Conversation Content or Memory, which you can delete.
5.4. No sale or sharing. We do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from camera data, and we do not disclose it except to service providers processing it on our behalf to provide the feature, or as required by law.
6. Integrations
6.1. If you connect a third-party account such as Google Calendar or email, we access only the data needed to perform the features you use (for example, reading your calendar to remind you of a meeting, or creating an event you ask for). You can disconnect an Integration at any time in the app or in the third-party account's settings, after which we stop accessing that account.
6.2. Google user data. Jois's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google user data only to provide and improve the user-facing features you request; we do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, we do not allow humans to read it except with your consent, for security purposes, or as required by law, and we do not use it to train generalized AI models.
7. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose personal information only as follows:
- AI providers: to generate text, voice, and vision responses (see Section 4.1).
- Service providers: companies that help us run the Services, such as cloud hosting and storage, databases, analytics and crash reporting, customer support, email delivery, and push notifications. They may use personal information only to provide services to us.
- Payment and app store providers: Apple, Google, and Stripe, to process purchases and manage subscriptions.
- Integrations you connect: when you ask a Companion to take an action in a connected service, we send that service the information needed to complete the action.
- Legal and safety: when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or legal process, or is necessary to protect the safety of any person, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to protect the rights and property of Jois and our users.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy. We will notify you of any change in ownership affecting your information.
- With your consent: in other cases where you ask us to or agree that we may, such as when you share Companion content publicly.
8. Data Retention
- Account information: kept while your account is active.
- Conversation Content and Memory: kept until you delete them or delete your account, so that Companions can keep context and remember you.
- Voice audio and camera frames: processed in real time and not stored by us after the session. Transcripts and information derived from them may be saved as Conversation Content or Memory.
- Purchase records: kept as long as required for tax, accounting, and legal purposes.
- Logs and usage data: kept for a limited period for security, troubleshooting, and analytics, then deleted or de-identified.
When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep certain information to comply with law, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse (for example, a limited identifier to prevent repeated misuse of free trials), or enforce our Terms. Residual copies in backups are overwritten in the ordinary course, typically within 90 days. Deleting the app from your device does not delete your account.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls based on least privilege, multi-factor authentication for administrative access, logging and monitoring, and security review of our code and dependencies. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
10. International Data Transfers
Jois is based in the United States, and our service providers, including our AI providers, may process data in the United States and other countries. When we transfer personal information from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or other jurisdictions with transfer restrictions, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or on adequacy decisions where available.
11. Age Requirements
The Services are intended only for adults aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will delete it and close the account. If you believe a minor is using the Services, please contact us at mr.nurtazayev@gmail.com.
12. Your Choices and Controls
- Device permissions: turn microphone, camera, location, motion sensors, and notifications on or off in your device settings.
- In-app controls: view, edit, or delete Memory; clear conversation history; disable background listening, proactive messages, or Mature Mode; and disconnect Integrations.
- Account deletion: delete your account in the app settings or by emailing mr.nurtazayev@gmail.com.
- Marketing emails: unsubscribe using the link in any promotional email.
13. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; correct inaccurate information; delete your information; receive a portable copy of your information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing); and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
To exercise your rights, email mr.nurtazayev@gmail.com from the email address associated with your account, or use the in-app controls. We will verify your identity before fulfilling a request. You may use an authorized agent where permitted by law; we may require proof of their authorization. We respond within the time required by applicable law (for example, 45 days under U.S. state laws and one month under the GDPR, extendable where permitted).
13.1. U.S. state privacy rights
If you reside in California or another U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the rights described above. In the preceding 12 months, we collected the following categories of personal information, as described in Section 2: identifiers; commercial information (purchase records); internet or network activity; geolocation data; audio and visual information; inferences drawn to personalize your experience; and sensitive personal information you choose to share in conversations. We collect these for the purposes described in Section 3 and disclose them to the categories of recipients described in Section 7.
We do not sell or "share" (as defined under California law) personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than those permitted under California law, such as providing the Services you request. If we deny your request, residents of certain states may appeal by replying to our decision; if the appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.
Consumer health data. If you share health-related information in conversations, we process it only to provide the Services you request and as described in Section 4.3. We do not sell it. Residents of Washington, Nevada, and other states with consumer health data laws may exercise rights regarding such data using the contact details below.
13.2. EEA and UK rights
If you are in the EEA or UK, Jois Technologies Inc. is the controller of your personal information. We process it on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the Services, Memory, subscriptions); consent (camera, microphone, location, background listening, Integrations, sensitive information you choose to share, and marketing where required); legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, safety, analytics, and improving the Services, balanced against your rights); and legal obligation (tax, accounting, and responding to lawful requests). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
14. Communications
By using the Services, you agree to receive electronic communications from us, including service messages, updates to our Terms or this Privacy Policy, and Companion notifications you have enabled. You can control push notifications in your device settings and opt out of promotional emails at any time.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last Updated" date and, for material changes, notify you through the Services or by email before they take effect. Where required by law, we will ask for your consent.
